"How Romantic Comedies Should Be, Jennifer Lopez"

by mr. D

This is me Wednesday night: I am bored. I'm sitting at my PC, listening to some good music, playing The Sims 2 (with all the expansion packs) but, generally speaking, I am bored.

And then something magical happens: the phone rings and it's mr. F and I know this means "movie". ;)

So anyway, after waiting for for a few 60 minutes or more, we finally get at the multiplex, eat, drink, laugh, likes a waiter (at least mr.

F thinks so), mr. F keeps staring at the waiter sending him vibes of negative energy until he drops dead - he doesn't fortunately. With all that boring shit about them I forgot to tell you that I convinced them to go to the movie that I wanted and that was .

The main reason I wanted to watch it is . She is undoubtedly one of the best young actresses and in my top-3 list. I love her movies, her talent and her British accent.

She has acted in some great movies during the last years such as , , , the breathtaking (#38 in IMDB's of all times). Not to mention which is nominated for a Golden Globe and, as far as I can tell, an Academy Award. Besides, Kate is nominated also this year and I hope she finally wins.

The Story: Movie trailer editor, Amanda of Los Angeles (Diaz), CA and journalist Iris of Surrey (Winslet), England live five thousand miles apart and have never met, but are dealing with the same problem: men. Amanda having just broken up with her cheating boyfriend, Ethan and Iris having pined for her ex, Jasper, becoming engaged to the woman he left her for decide to take a vacation during Christmas. They come upon a website called home exchange and swap houses for two weeks both with a goal to forget their troubled love lives.

But love ends up finding them anyways. Amanda starts a romance with Iris' older brother, Graham (Law), a book editor and Iris starts a romance with a movie composer named Miles (Black). With new found romance, both their lives change forever.

The Moments: Each one of the actresses has her moments. Cameron's most hilarious scene is when she desperately tries to cry, making some of the most funny faces in the movie. On the other hand, Kate really made me laugh when she was giving her brother (Jude Law) a hard time on the phone because he'd fucked Cameron.

The only problem: on the line was actually Cameron. :P As for quotes, there are tons and, of course, most of them come from Kate. However, they aren't the typical quotes that you can hear in any typical romantic comedy.

did a fine job and even when the heroes say something cliché, they make it sound original. Jude was entertaining generally and I don't really like Jack Black so I can't say I was stunned by his performance or by the fact that Kate falls for him (whatever..

.).

To See Or Not To See: Well, so far we have a sweet love story, a great cast, originality and Christmas.

I think all of the above make the film ideal, especially for this time of the year.
