Four employees at the St. Croix, Wisconsin Jail have been suspended with pay following the death of an inmate. Dunn County sheriff's officials are handling the case.

Investigator Craig Koser says they're still waiting for autopsy results to determine how Brandon Lee Hessler died. Koser says some "red flags" were raised during the investigation, leading to the suspensions. The 28-year-old New Richmond man was arrested March 15 for failing a sobriety requirement in a past case.

Authorities say he appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance when he was booked. He was found unresponsive in his cell on March 18. Jail staff tried to revive him.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Hudson Wisconsin.
