LUCK has come Claudia Karvan's way, with the much-loved Sydney actress landing a leading role alongside Hollywood heartthrob Ethan Hawke in a new Hollywood vampire flick. Fellow Aussie Sam Neill will be working alongside the former Secret Life Of Us siren in Daybreakers, with Spiderman star Willem Dafoe poised to join the cast of the thriller. Hawke will play a researcher in the film who works with a covert band of vampires to find a way to save humankind, while Karvan has signed on as his love interest Lucy.

Filming has been slated to begin at Warner Bros Movie World studios on the Gold Coast on July 16. Due for release next year, the movie is set in the year 2017 when a plague has transformed most humans into blood-sucking monsters. The flick's producer Chris Brown told Confidential snaring Karvan was a huge coup.

'' She's somebody we always had in mind,'' he said. Also, she's playing opposite (heartthrob) Ethan Hawke which I'm sure had something to do with it. It's a very, very different take on this kind of genre picture and that's really what has attracted actors of this calibre to it.

'' Karvan is also working on an animated film $9.99, currently in pre-production, with two of her former co-stars Ben Mendelsohn from Love My Way and Joel Edgerton and Samuel Johnson from Secret Life. What is this?
