Playstation 3 and the Flood: Is this the End of Days?

We are experiencing some monsoon-like rain here in the northeast tonight (Thursday, November 16). The rain is blowing sideways.

And there's lots of it.
So, imagine my surprise when I pulled into both Circuit City and Best Buy tonight and there were tents (with practically real people inside) lined up at the front doors and around both buildings.
What the f.

..?

, I asked myself. (My wife and dog were at home, so I had to talk to myself again..

..)
Then it dawned on me: The Sony Playstation 3 comes out tomorrow morning and these whack-jobs were waiting in line.

I asked the Best Buy guy who greets you at the front door (a promotion from Wal-Mart, I suppose) how long they had been there. He said that the first few people in line had set up their tents the night before.
I am not into games, so I really don't get it.

Best Buy did, however, have their demo unit set up and running in the store and I have to say, the graphics are crazy-cool. But then again, how much hi-def detail does one need racing the same old cars around the same old track that dates back to Colecovision?
I wanted to mock these people in line until I had this thought: On the days that I am out on a 50 mile bike ride in 90 degree heat, or getting up at 4:00 am for the honor of paying $100 to enter a triathlon, during which my heart rate will never fall below 170, these guys are sitting in their air-conditioned bedrooms, happily ripping the lungs out of some alien in Mortal Kombat 23 .

Who am I to cast aspersions? To each his own.
To all the new PS3 owners: enjoy!

Just make sure you keep a fire extinguisher handy. Sony products have a tendency to spontaneously combust these days. Or, better yet, wear your Ray-Bans.

I hear Sony has had a bit of trouble with the new Blu-Ray DVD players in the PS3. God forbid one of the lasers goes haywire and burns out your retinas.
