LOS ANGELES Police arrested a female Juvenile Hall employee suspected of sexually abusing a minor in custody, authorities said Tuesday. Kimberly Holt, 34, was arrested on Friday and was being held on $200,000 bail for investigation of oral copulation of a minor, said Los Angeles police Officer Marjan Mobasser. Holt was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Mobasser said.
David Davies, chief deputy for the Los Angeles County Department of Probation, said Holt had worked as a custodian at Central Juvenile Hall for about a year. She was suspended without pay after her arrest, he said. Davies said the incident was still under investigation and would not elaborate on details of the case, including the alleged victim's age, gender and when the act allegedly occurred.
Authorities did not know who Holt had retained as a lawyer. A message left at the office of Local Union No. 685, the union that Davies said represents Holt, was not immediately returned.
Central Juvenile Hall is one of three county facilities holding as many as 1,800 adolescent inmates facing criminal charges on any given day. Department of Justice has overseen the halls for much of this decade after an investigation found the county failed to adequately prevent violence in the facilities or provide mental health or substance abuse care and educational programs for minors. The Board of Supervisors, under pressure to comply with reforms ordered by the federal government, last year hired a new chief of probation.
Chief Robert Taylor has hired more than 400 new employees and boosted staff ethics training. LOS ANGELES Police arrested a female Juvenile Hall employee suspected of sexually abusing a minor in custody, authorities said Tuesday.
