The Dutch government plans to exclude iPods and other digital music players from copyright levy plans, the Ministry of General Affairs said Wednesday.
Digital music players and hard disk video recorders will be excluded from Dutch copyright levy plans, reports.MP3 players and DVD recorders will be excluded from the copyright levy.
"The council of Ministers has adopted a draft by the Justice Minister in which MP3 players and DVD recorders will be excluded from the copyright levy," the ministry said in a statement.
Some industry executives believed the levy had no place in a digital 21st century, as it was introduced on blank cassettes in the 1960s. They say that since consumers already pay a copyright fee when they buy music, they should not have to pay again when they burn it on CD or transfer it to a digital music player.
