With hippie flare and an occasional nod to Johnny Depp, the longest reigning captain has proven to be a shrewd judge of character. Azmyth is a master at figuring out who will turn against himself. Last week he rightly guessed that Nessa would pay a royal sum for a pardon, so he didn't bother putting her on trial.
His greatest strength is that he doesn't have personal feelings for anyone. Jay assesses the other pirates in terms of what they can or cannot do for him. Everybody's right-hand man is Ben.
He's strong and decisive without flashing too much ambition. He'll be cut loose late in the game, I expect. This guy is captain material.
In the real world Joe Don is a firefighter, so maybe that's why I have a weakness for him. Right now, Joe Don is a bit fond of Nessa, who may or may not be trouble. This week's competition demonstrated Louie's shortcomings and skills: He wasn't fast when he had to climb that tree, and he scrambled around looking for the key.
But once another crew member pointed it out, Louie untied the intricate knot in about three seconds, making up for lost time. Initially just background noise, Christa has come into her own as a competitor. She's strong and self-motivated, bossy when she needs to be, and otherwise kind to her fellow pirates.
In short, Christa is a mom. These buccaneers are in it for the gold.
