IS this an anonymous face in the crowd, or is it really Australia's most successful actor-director in disguise, trying to keep a very low profile?
Hollywood star and producer Mel Gibson was visiting the Mexican state capital of Sonora for the Catholic confirmations of family members - his daughter Hannah, her husband Kenny Wayne and two of his grandchildren.
The devout Catholic arrived at the house of Archbishop of Hermosillo, Carlos Quintero Arce, with his sister, assistant, two priests, Hannah and Mr Wayne.
The archbishop confirmed Hannah, her husband and the two grandchildren in a ceremony in Latin.
It's believed Gibson then left the house in disguise to avoid media at the entrance of the house.
Photographic agency Picture Media released several images of a man leaving the house they believed to be Gibson, disguised by make-up, white hair, beard and glasses.
Later, Gibson - who once starred in a movie called Forever Young - was seen dressed in normal attire.
Gibson is one of Hollywood's most powerful stars.
He is known as Mad Max, Braveheart and the actor who last year unleashed an extraordinary anti-Semitic rant and blamed the Jews for all the wars in the world .
He had been arrested for speeding and drink-driving in Los Angeles.
According to leaked police documents, he peppered a sheriff's deputy with remarks about f..
.ing Jews .
Gibson, who also made headlines after allegedly throwing a phone handset at a wall when he could not get a dial tone, later apologised, pleading for Jewish leaders to help him heal .
About two months later, he returned to the spotlight to promote his hit movie Apocalypto and to criticise the war in Iraq.
Is this man Mel Gibson?
