Tell us your favourite romantic scenes, and win our critics' top 20 The most romantic scene ever filmed in my opinion is in The Village, where Joaquin Pheonix and Bryce Dallas Howard's characters are sitting on her stoop after the 'attack' by the creatures.

She leads the conversation because he is so shy but asks why he is sitting on her porch, rather than staying at home to protect his family. He tells her that he values her safety above all others and proposes by telling her that despite his shyness, he will dance at their wedding. Somewhere in Time .

Basically the entire movie, but especially when he's been beaten and he thinks she's left with the company. He's sitting on the veranda at the Grand Hotel, totally bereft. Off in the distance, you see her sadly walking across the lawn.

She looks up and sees him and calls his name. They start running towards each, meeting on the stairs and kissing madly. Gets me every time.

For me, the most romantic movie scene is in the John Travolta film Phenomenon. Travolta's character, George, is in love with Lace (Kyra Sedgwick), but she is reluctant to get involved. He has been getting smarter (he saw a bright light in the sky) and his life has been going to hell as a result.

His life is spiraling out of control and he doesn't sleep. He can't really take care of himself, because his brain is in overdrive. Finally, there is this wonderful scene where Lace comes to his home and gives him a haircut while Crazy Love by Aaron Neville plays in the background.

It's one of my favorite film moments ever. Bella Marta, 2001 (Sandra Nettlebeck)- There are quiet a few wonderful romantic scenes in this film, a German import involving chefs Martha (Martina Gedeck) and Mario (Sergio Castellitto). There s a bit where Sergio blindfolds Martha to see if she can guess the ingredients of something he has made, and he takes it as an opportunity to kiss her.

Castellitto once again proves it takes more than pretty-boy good looks to pull off romance. I doubt the Americanized version starring Aaron Eckhart and Catherine Zeta Jones will be able to live up to this charming film. The winner will be selected by our panel.
