Washington, May 12 (ANI): Actor-director Mel Gibson was praised by a judge for the progress he has attained in his rehabilitation, after the star had been arrested for driving in an inebriated condition last year. Although Mel was not present in the Malibu Court, the judge conveyed his satisfaction over the actor’s progress to his attorney Blair Berk.

"I truly believe the rehabilitation in this case is being very effective," TMZ quoted him as saying. He further said that while he eventually wished to see Mel, "it's counterproductive to have him in the courtroom" at that time. Mel’s attorney filed paperwork with the court on Friday morning, indicating that the actor was meeting all the terms of his probation.

"He's doing extremely well," she told the judge. The next hearing on the case is scheduled to take place on 23 August.
