GEORGE CLOONEY and his crew of A-list cohorts return for one last crime caper in Steven Soderbergh s glossy heist flick Ocean s 13. True to form it s another cool, calculated, knee-trembling slice of cinema guaranteed to have the ladies swooning in the aisles. Let s face it, when it comes to great hair, stylish suits and down-right gorgeousness, you can t beat Danny Ocean.
He s slicker than an oil spill and loveable to boot. In this third roll-of-the-dice, he returns to the original scene of the crime from Ocean s 11 (Las Vegas, that is). Why?
Well, it s simple for revenge. Danny s friend and mentor Reuben (Elliott Gould) is double-crossed by ruthless casino boss Willie Bank (the legendary Al Pacino). As a result he winds up broke and hospitalised.
This provides the catalyst for Danny (Clooney) to get his gang of grifters back together for their most audacious heist yet. The plan is firstly to break The Bank the name of Willy Bank s state-of-the-art casino on its gala opening night, by rigging all the blackjack tables and slot machines to pay out big time. Elliot Gould gets help from some old friends The real knockout punch is aimed at Bank s reputation he is the only hotelier to have earned the Royal Review Board s Five Diamond Award at every one of his establishments.
The odds are well and truly stacked against pulling this off but, with his trusty right-hand man Rusty on board (Brad Pitt again providing a masterclass in how to deliver dialogue while stuffing your face with Chinese food), anything is possible. Help is also at hand from the usual suspects, namely Matt Damon, the hilarious combo of Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck and Scott Caan and old-timer Carl Reiner. Even Ocean s 11 s original fallguy Andy Garcia reprises his role as casino boss Benedict, but this time he s batting for Ocean s team.
With Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones out of the picture, it s left to Ellen Barkin s sexy charms (bolstered by a new-ish boob-job and a boatload of Botox) to provide a drop of female eye-candy among the ocean of male testosterone.
