FREMANTLE'S disgraced Jeff Farmer will be banned from training with the Dockers until at least the end of the month.
However the Dockers have vowed to help Farmer with his problems and revealed he wants counselling, including anger management.
Farmer was fined $3000 in the Perth Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to assaulting a bouncer at a Perth nightclub on Saturday night.
The club fined him $5000 and suspended him until the Round 13 game against Carlton on June 30 at Subiaco.
Farmer still has one more week of a six-game suspension to serve after he was outed for eye-gouging in the NAB Cup.
He will begin training with South Fremantle next week and will line up against Perth next Friday night.
Fremantle football operations manager Robert Shaw said yesterday Farmer would not be allowed at Fremantle Oval for at least this month.
He will meet Docker officials at the end of the month to assess his form and explain what he has done to address his off-field behaviour.
If the club is happy with his progress, he could be invited to do some training sessions or attend team meetings in the lead-up to his ban expiring.
Shaw stressed the club had not simply pushed Farmer aside, but wanted him to show initiative, while the Dockers would provide the guidance.
This is not us saying, 'You are suspended, see you later'. Counselling, anger management - the whole box and dice - has been made available to Jeff and he wants to do it, Shaw said.
It is all being driven by Jeff at the moment.
We would expect Jeff to play the second half of the season and be a significant contributor like he was last year.
It's also about helping him as a bloke.
He said club officials met Farmer on Tuesday to outline his program.
Someone from the club will ring Farmer every second day to gauge his progress and offer him support.
Obviously we will watch him train at South Fremantle, which is right under our noses, and also watch him play every week, Shaw said.
The board has said that Jeff will be assessed at the end of the month and if that assessment is in the positive, we will consider our position.
I know he is very remorseful and has publicly apologised.
Shaw, a former assistant coach at Essendon, said he appreciated Farmer's ability more since joining Fremantle.
He is a great player. A lot of people will remember him for his football ability when he retires, he said.
I really think he slots in behind Leigh Matthews, Kevin Bartlett and Peter Daicos as the best small forwards in the history of the game.
He is getting near 500 goals.
