Los Angeles indie-poppers Great Northern will release their Trading Twilight For Daylight full-length debut via Eenie Meenie Records on May 15.
Producer Mathias Scheeneberger (Joseph Arthur, Queens Of The Stone Age) oversaw the follow-up to the band's independently released 2006 EP, Bats. The album was recorded at Scheeneberger's Donner And Blitzen Studios in Arcadia, California.
Great Northern features two erstwhile members of California collective Earlimart: drummer Davey Latter and guitarist Solon Bixler. The latter once played with 30 Seconds To Mars, but don't hold the Jared Leto connection against him. Great Northern's dreamy, epic guy-girl pop has earned them comparisons to That Dog and The Flaming Lips.
The band, who also feature Rachel Stolte on keyboards and Ashley Dterigan on bass, played a series of well-received gigs at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March. After returning home to L.A.
, they shot a video for "Home" with director Josh Forbes (The Shins, Cold War Kids). That track, along with "Low Is A Height" and "Middle," can be heard on the group's .
Great Northern will play Toronto's Lee's Palace on June 9 as part of the North By Northeast Music Festival.
