Beowulf on the Big Screen by IGN Staff - Robert Zemeckis' forthcoming live-action/CG adaptation of the classic tale hits theaters on November 16. The anticipated flick is done in the same style as the filmmaker's previous performance-capture effort, , only with a more advanced version of the technology. The movie will play in standard theaters, on Real D screens, and it was announced today that it will have a simultaneous IMAX 3D debut!

IMAX 3D has enabled us to tell stories in a whole new way, and we are very excited to offer moviegoers a chance to experience Beowulf in this incredible format, Zemeckis said. IMAX lends itself to the incredible image detail in Beowulf and in 3D, it will transport the audience directly into the story. 's all-star cast includes Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman and Angelina Jolie.

The film is based on a screenplay by scribes Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary, inspired by the ninth century Old English poem. In the epic tale, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats tribe, travels to Denmark to help defeat a monster named Grendel. He later returns to Geatland, where he becomes king.
