Art lovers can sample a wide range of artistic creations in back-to-back gallery openings at MIT this week.
The Dean's Gallery is holding an opening reception today for Betsy Cullen's "Day Dreams," a series of black and white photographs captured on infrared film and printed on watercolor paper to create dream-like images. The reception is from 5-7 p.
m. at the gallery in Room E52-466.
Images of MIT's new Simmons Hall dormitory are included in the Compton portion of a new exhibition of work by Steven Holl, considered one of America's leading architects.
"Steven Holl: Light, Material Detail" opens at both the Compton and Wolk Galleries on Thursday, Feb. 6. The Wolk part of the show includes recent projects or works-in-progress including the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art Expansion in Kansas City and the Helsinki (Finland) Museum of Contemporary Art.
A reception will be held on opening day at 5 p.m. at the Wolk Gallery in Room 7-338.
The Compton Gallery is in Room 10-150.
"Paul Pfeiffer," the most substantial exhibition to date devoted to the video, photography and sculpture of the award-winning artist, opens at the List Visual Arts Center on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Pfeiffer's work explores themes of identity, race and culture, often through imagery from sports, film and popular culture. Pfeiffer, winner of the Bucksbaum award from the 2000 Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, is currently an artist-in-residence at MIT. Also opening--and making its U.
S. premiere--is "Rapid Eye Movement," a short film by Bangladeshi-born, London-based artist Runa Islam. Both artists will attend a reception on Friday, Feb.

On Saturday, Feb. 8, Pfeiffer will speak about his exhibition at 1 p.m.
, and on Sunday, Feb. 9, Hiroko Kikuchi, the List Center education/outreach coordinator, will lead a gallery talk at noon.
