A fire that apparently started in a television set ripped through a house in Hammond, killing three people, fire officials said.
Two women and a man died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire early Saturday, a spokesman for the Lake County Coroner s Office said.
The coroner s office said the victims were identified as Felicia Beverly, 38, her 20-year-old daughter Tenese Beverly and Earl Jones, a family friend, who neighbors said was 38 years old.

A TV set in the basement appeared to be the source of the blaze, which occurred about 12:30 a.m., state Fire Marshal Jeff Roseboom said.

Four people escaped the fire.
