The last television commercial Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin filmed for Australia Zoo will air in Queensland from this weekend, according to the Brisbane Times.
The It s All About You ad was the last Irwin filmed for Australia Zoo before leaving on the documentary expedition on which he died, in September 2006. John Stainton, Irwin s friend and manager, today said the Crocodile Hunter s family had given its blessing to run with the commercial as though Steve was still here . Although Steve shot this commercial almost 12 months ago, he would have wanted this ad to go to air as part of the ongoing Australia Zoo advertising campaign, Mr Stainton said.
Steve was very passionate about promoting the zoo and always played a key part in all advertising campaigns. I am so pleased that the family and the Australia Zoo management have embraced this last work of Steve s and have had the courage to run with the commercial as though Steve was still here. This is what he would have wanted, this would have made him smile.
Irwin was killed by a stingray barb while filming his final documentary, Ocean s Deadliest, off the far north Queensland coast. Steve s smiling face continues as the public face of Australia Zoo s billboard, print and online advertising in Australia. Although the Australia Zoo web site publicizes a memorial DVD.
CD and magazine, visitors are still offered guided tours of the zoo led by Steve himself.
