"Life Under Sail: 50 Years Retrospective of Hans Skalagard," an exhibit featuring more than 50 maritime paintings by 82 year-old Viking descendant Hans Skalagard who became an apprentice on a square-rigged ship at age 14 and survived four sinkings during World War II. First hand experience and an artist's view brings vivid life to the mighty ships that crossed the Atlantic during wartime from the American Revolution to World War II.

A short film about Skalagard's life is shown daily in the Museum lobby and a film about the history of Monterey is shown daily in the Museum Theater. Films are free. Museum admission is $3.
