ttn_tamil_tv_netPrivately operated subscription service, Tamil Television Network (TTN) has been shut down due to extreme political pressure , reports say. The channel which began broadcasting to the European Tamil Diaspora community, some ten years ago, boasted more then 50 000 subscriptions translating to roughly 250 000 daily audience.

France based GlobeCast, a satellite TV and radio channel distribution company cut-off the TTN service on request by the French authorities, a spokesperson told the media. French government gave no reasons for the order. Meanwhile, 17 Tamils arrested across France on charges of raising funds for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are still being detained without charges.

Analysts have warned of high-drama in France as political parties try to woe voters in the ongoing Presidential elections. Tamils are being made scapegoats, analysts note. snm_special_thamilselvan At any time neither the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam would nor would our liberation struggle ever work against India or its people. There is no need to be alarmed over the expansion of our armed structure snm_special_dr._brian_seneviratne
