and Tuesday, 6/19, at 7 p.m. the Michigan Theater will be screening O Brother, Where Art Thou as part of their Summer Classic Film Series.
The 2000 adaptation of Homer s classic epic, The Odyssey, was modernized and directed by the Ethan and Joel Coen ( The Big Lebowski ). After escaping from a chain gang, three convicts gradually make their way across the turn of the century South towards a great treasure in a valley about to be flooded to help assuage the energy woes of The Depression. Starring George Clooney ( Ocean s Thirteen ), John Turturro ( The Good Shephard ), John Goodman (voice in Cars ) and Holly Hunter ( Thirteen ), the acting is not the only outstanding feature of O Brother, though it is exceptional.
A stellar soundtrack gives credit to bluegrass, folk and all that is mountain music. Nominated for the Oscar for Best Cinematography and Adapted Screenplay, O Brother should rank high on the list of movies you should want to see in theaters again. It has the added bonus of being a fan favorite without being a cult classic or a fan boy obsession.
