The Plot: Professional card player Huck Cheever (Bana) tries to beat the odds (and his own demons) at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
THE BUZZ: Lucky this one finally scored a release date ..

. Mr. Hanson, you are masterful at selling eccentric material, and we sincerely loved , but would you consider something a bit more non-traditional for your next project?

Mr. Bana, your new agent is out there somewhere, and she or he really thinks you're wonderful and wants to you to consider better scripts. Ms.

Barrymore, maybe pull a Kate Hudson and we'll see you in 2008? Or '09?
a nursing home, where she will not be allowed to see her husband, Grant (Pinsent), for a 30-day period.

And when Grant arrives for his first visit, he encounters a woman who no longer recognizes him and who has fallen for a fellow patient (Murphy).
THE BUZZ: Sarah Polley has spent nearly all of her life on indie film sets, and the experience has given her a heightened sense of ennui, as she's set to truly bum your stone with her directorial debut. The funny thing is: few people expected the film, despite its stunning cast, to survive once its festival tour was over.

And now it's being positioned as a blockbuster-buster.
The Plot: Slacker Tom Reilly (Braff) is forced to work for his father-in-law (Grodin) after his wife (Peet) steps away from her high-paying job in order to care for their new baby. The pressures at work and at home are bridged when Tom discovers his new co-worker (Bateman) has a history with his wife.

THE BUZZ: A romantic comedy starring a guy and a gal who each have their own flagging NBC show. Did it just get really cold in here? The Ex (f.

k.a. Fast Track) was indeed rushed into production earlier this year, back when Zach Braff was the hottest slacker in town.

But then he gave us and broke it off with Mandy Moore, causing his stock to plummet. However, we're feeling optimistic about this comedy. It feels like a movie Ben Stiller should have made ten years ago -- and that's a good thing, as Braff can make broad appeal non-annoying.

And even though Amanda Peet can't quite get the Sorkin cadence down on "Studio 60," she looks set redeem herself as Braff's beleaguered spouse. And, of course, co-star Jason Bateman and bit-player Amy Poehler should supply plenty of one-liners to recite days after the happy ending.
The Plot: As a feisty salon owner (Fox) fights to save her business from foreclosure, she falls for the lawyer (Henson) who represents the city's interest in her building.

THE BUZZ: The guy behind both Barbershop movies wants you to hear what the ladies have to say, and he turns to his star to weave a comedy out of the conversations and scenarios previously seen in and . Actually, just add a romantic angle to Barbershop's original storyline, turn Calvin Palmer into a female, and here you go ..

.
The Plot: A documentary on Chris 'Kazi' Rolle, a once-homeless New York City man who has blossomed into a mentor for the city's youth who want to express themselves through their love of hip-hop.
THE BUZZ: Chris Rolle is the hero, and the tag-team of Russell Simmons and Bruce Willis (?

!) are the secret weapons in this documentary by first-time filmmaker Matt Ruskin. Simmons and Willis provided Rolle with some of the means for him and his crew to record their The Plot: As the threat to pirates-at-large near its climax, Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) form an alliance with surprise accomplice Captain Barbossa (Rush) and sail to the Far East in order to save Jack Sparrow from the mysterious afterworld known as Davey Jones's Locker.

THE BUZZ: So the film that was never supposed to be a success has become the first post-LOTR mega-franchise (Dead Man's Chest will be one of the top 5 high-grossest movies ever), and Disney isn't making sure it doesn't exit quietly ito the night. So of course the production sounds like chaos on the high seas; however, the cast and crew must be used to the stop-start production schedule and scriptless endeavors that made DMC the rousing spectacle of 2006. For their curtain call, look for the ribald humor and effects-driven adventure to be ratcheted-up to the point where you .

.. can't quite tell what's going on.

But we love these characters and this cast, and adding Chow Yun-Fat and Keith Richards to the last leg is an indication that suckage is not in the forecast. At this writing, production is near-complete on the third and final adventure, though Johnny Depp has been quoted in the press that he put the mascara on again. Meanwhile, over at Disneyland, supposedly there are plans to dismantle Tom Sawyer Island for a second Pirates-themed attraction.

Frackin' Tom Sawyer! The Plot: When machines designed to allow therapists to enter their patient's dreams are stolen, the scientists who developed the devices set out to retrieve them. Leading the group is psychotherapist Dr.

Atsuko Chiba and her alter-ego -- a fearless young woman who goes by the code name Paprika. THE BUZZ: Satoshi Kon has posse. Anime fans started worshipping his stories of fractured reality from on up to his recent Cartoon Network series, " ".

All he and Sony Classics need to hope for is that the movie-going public that admonishes Hollywood for its animated tripe doesn't commit a crime of disinterest here. Non-anime types should know the film has more of a story and theme than the trailer suggests ..
