The Cribs, the English rock trio from Wakefield in West Yorkshire, opened at No.
13 with their third album "Men's Needs Women's Needs Whatever," produced by their Domino labelmate Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand. The single "Men's Needs" reached No. 17 last week.
California band Hellogoodbye opened at No. 17 with "Zombies Aliens Vampires Dinosaurs" (Drive Thru) as the single "Here (In Your Arms)" single (Drive Thru) rose 5-4. Simply Red made a strong 38-16 move with their current "Stay" album (simplyred.
com) and another 1980s chart veteran act, Erasure, debuted at No. 29 with "Light at the End of the World" (Mute).
The singles chart had no top 10 debuts, but several tracks edged back in the right direction.
In addition to Hellogoodbye's single, these included "Cupid's Chokehold" (Atlantic) by Gym Class Heroes (6-5), Akon's "Don't Matter" (Universal) (7-6), "Give It To Me" (Interscope) by Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake (9-8) and Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" (Arista) (14-11).
