"They have talked about marriage on and off for a long time but the recent emotional roller-coaster they have had to endure seems to have spurred them into action," a source told the London newspaper.

The "Pirates Of The Caribbean" star and Paradis were at their daughter's bedside while in London, where Depp was filming "Sweeney Todd." He had refused to return to the set until the child was out of danger, which forced filming to shut down. S. television shows aired during the 2005-06 season didn't employ a minority writer, a Writers Guild of America report said. "I wish we could say that we did not have to issue this damn depressing report," Patric Varrone, WGA West president, said during a news conference Tuesday.

Darnell Hunt, author of "2007 Hollywood Writers Report -- Whose Stories Are We Telling?" said minorities held only 9 percent of TV slots in 2005, down from 10 percent in 2004. The report found minorities accounted for 6 percent of film jobs during 2005, as in previous years.

The average earnings gap for white and minority screenwriters grew in 2005; white writers averaged $77,577 compared with $66,666 for minorities, said Hunt. The report found the number of women writers remained virtually unchanged in television and features, remaining at 27 percent in TV and nudging up 1 percent to 19 percent in films. Women nearly matched men in average TV earnings, at $94,123 -- just $267 less than what men earn.

In film, men earned an average of $90,000 while women's pay fell from $65,966 in 2004 to $50,000 in 2006. Copyright 2007 by United Press International
