Chrysler Group reported today that George Murphy, its senior vice president of global brand marketing, will leave the company by Thursday. The resignation of Murphy, 51, marks the first major departure from the executive team of the Chrysler operations since a deal was announced by DaimlerChrysler to sell 80.1 percent of the American subsidiary to Cerberus Capital Management.
Murphy has been VP since February of 2001. He joined the company after leaving Ford, where he held the post of general marketing manager for the Ford brand. Prior to that, Murphy worked for General Electric.
"George has made a key contribution to our efforts to retool our brands - Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge," said Steven Landry, Executive Vice President of North American Sales, Marketing, Service and Parts. "Most recently, he engineered a new identity for the Chrysler Brand featuring a new theme line - Engineered Beautifully. This campaign shows that there is more behind the sheet metal and distinctive style of this brand.
"
Get-together could be first with new owners.
Turf protection and expansion abroad, they say.
