us AIM Georgia on our minds Also Tennessee, Texas, California and, believe it or not, Rhode Island As our nation prepares to celebrate its 231st birthday on Wednesday, we salute the 50 states in today's Summer Playlist. We scoured our music collections for the best songs that mention states in the titles. A few appeared over and over (the songwriters love Georgia, Texas and California), and some were nowhere to be found, at least among our CDs and iTunes lists.

Here's our list, organized as if you were traveling east to west. The States of Music Today Moonlight in Vermont, Frank Sinatra: A lovely ode to romance in New England. Rhode Island Is Famous for You Rhode Island is not a state well represented in pop music, but this song, redone with so much vim, makes up for it.
