The original Shrek was a witty, hilarious send-up of the Disney formula /style, in addition to presenting a touching twist on an ugly duckling story. In the 2001 movie, an ogre named Shrek (Mike Meyers) was cajoled by Lord Farquaad into rescuing Princess Fiona (Cameroon Diaz) with the help of a wise-cracking donkey (Eddie Murphy).

All returned in a 2004 Meet the Parents-esque sequel with new villain Prince Charming and royal mom and dad, played by John Cleese and Julie Andrews.



Both movies did huge gangbusters at the box office, so it was natural for the green monster s success to open the door for more green with a third movie. Unfortunately, the screenwriting and directing talent from the first two Shreks have gone on to other projects (namely Pirates of the Caribbean and Chronicles of Narnia ) and what s left is nice, stylish eye candy, but little of the poignant, witty substance of the first two movies.
