Unfortunately the Big Mac character is not exactly flattering to Symond but now that he's slimmed down, that will have to be revised. Truth is out there COURT watchers at Gordon Wood's Burwood Court committal hearing over Caroline Byrne's death at The Gap in June 1995 were mesmerised by the presence of the stunning, blonde woman and her equally imposing male partner. The reporters nicknamed the man Uncle Versace, confusing him with Wood's supposedly wealthy uncle from the UK.

However they were actually eastern suburbs identities - cosmetic spruiker Lisa Pongrass and her property developer husband Steve. It has been rumoured in the past that the Pongrasses were stumping up for Wood's heavyweight legal bills, which includes the services of barrister Winston Terracini SC. No, we are not paying for Gordon Wood's legal fees,'' Pongrass insists.

She added that she had no idea'' who was supporting Wood in this way. However, Pongrass is a passionate supporter of Wood. They used to live in the same apartment complex and she credits him for saving the life of her best friend in the months following Caroline Byrne's death.

She was at my place when she had an acute asthma attack and went into cardiac arrest,'' Pongrass states. I tried to revive her but I also knocked on Gordon's door in the hallway and he immediately came and did CPR on her until the ambulance arrived.'' Pongrass says that Wood also accompanied the two women to the hospital and made himself available in the weeks following the incident to ferry her friend to doctors' appointments.

He showed his true colours then,'' Pongrass claims. She also says that she hopes that the truth about Gordon will eventually come out. A Watts on rocks THEY became engaged on top of the Empire State building and had a star-studded celebration in Sydney late last year but the relationship is on the rocks between fashion designer Stephanie Connolly and New York photographer Ben Watts, the brother of hugely pregnant actress Naomi Watts.

Gorgeous Connolly, who once dated actor Owen Wilson, has taken a trip to Italy where she has been studying the language. She has told close friends that the relationship ended in May, during Sydney Fashion Week. Watts is back in New York where he is by the side of his sis, who is expecting her first child with partner Liev Schreiber.

SYDNEY'S nicest cossie queen, Heidi Vandervord, has just become engaged to her boyfriend, project manager Bruce Wallis. He asked for her hand when they spent the long weekend at Avoca Beach and there was a sudden blackout. They now plan to marry in November.

We are both very, very happy,'' says Vandervord, a willowy blonde who has made such a success of the Cheetah label. The couple has only been dating since last spring but felt an instant attraction and just knew that they wanted to be together for keeps. This will be Vandervord's second marriage; her first husband was Italian hairdresser turned restaurateur Antonella Brocca.

Vandervord's parents are reportedly thrilled about the impending nuptials. NOW that the Packer wedding guests are starting to filter home after one of the most lavish celebrations in Australian marital history, the talk has centred on the bride's exquisite haute couture wardrobe. According to one guest, Baxter appeared each day in nothing less than the best of French and Italian design from top to toe, frequently changing outfits several times a day.

They have conservatively put an estimate of her south of France wardrobe, including the show-stopping Christian Dior wedding gown, as close to half a million dollars. The new Mrs Packer seems well on her way to being one of the world's most influential members of that exclusive club: women who can afford haute couture. Some of the French and Italian houses are already salivating about the prospect of dressing her for James Packer's 40th birthday party.

Australia's richest man celebrates his milestone on September 8. PROPERTY circles are reeling because the well-known and successful agent, Michael Goldberg, 63, is due to face Cooma Court on July 4 after being charged with wilful and obscene exposure. The event took place at his residence in the Snowman apartments on the June long weekend.

The alleged victim was reportedly so upset that she immediately packed up and left the Thredbo resort. Calls to Michael Goldberg went unanswered on Friday. What is this?
