July 3, 2007 -- DON T be fooled by the title of her album. Sara Bareilles is anything but a Little Voice. Like a handful of female, piano-playing, singer-songwriters before her - including Norah Jones and Fiona Apple - newcomer Bareilles sports big, lush vocals that are perfect for her jazz-laden, soulful pop songs.
If that s the case, why give her debut album the Little Voice moniker? That was my mantra over this whole journey, she says, referring to the two years that passed between being signed by Epic and today s record release. I went into it very naive, trying to please everybody, and I quickly realized you get lost in the shuffle if you try to do that.
I had to remind myself to listen to that little voice inside - get quiet and listen to what it was telling me.
