Universal Studios wants Hollywood car collector George Barris to stop claiming any involvement with the "Back to the Future" films.
Studio officials have a obtained a cease-and-desist order demanding Barris stop "misrepresentations" regarding the popular films starring Michael J. Fox," the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Universal wants Barris to remove images of the flying DeLorean gull-winged car from his Web site and to restrict his display of replicas of the car used in the movies.
Barris, who runs a North Hollywood customizing car shop, recently was honored by city officials for his six-decade career in promoting famous cars seen in movies and on television.
Barris said he intended no deception and acknowledged the DeLorean he displays was never used in any of the "Back to the Future" films.
"I promote and encourage the car industry," he said. "That's what I've always done.
