Friday, July 13 at 10pm ET - Players A judge's son is found shot to death following a rapper's trial. Meanwhile, Wheeler investigates her estranged father's alleged illegal activities. About the Show For many fans of "Law Order: Criminal Intent," the show's appeal lies as much in the detectives' psychological analysis as in the conclusions they come to.
Starring Vincent D'Onofrio ("Men in Black") as the very suave Detective Robert Goren, the show follows a New York City major case squad as it solves crimes with a mixture of psychology, perseverance and plenty of cunning. "It's the way that Goren comes to the conclusion of who it is that's the entertaining part of Criminal Intent," says TV blogger Richard Keller. "The way he gets the killer to confess is just so suave; like two old friends having a conversation about the weather.
" Reminiscent in deduction style of Sherlock Holmes, Goren is an exceptionally bright homicide investigator with well-honed instincts. Likewise, his longtime partner, Detective Alexandra Eames (Kathryn Erbe, "Oz"), brings an independence and stylish edge to her work that meshes well with Goren. Now in its sixth season, this year's cast includes newcomers Detective Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) and Captain Danny Ross (Eric Bogosian).
Wheeler plays the partner of Detective Mike Logan (Chris Noth, "Sex and the City"), who was exiled to Staten Island after punching a city councillor 10 years ago on "Law Order." Wheeler balances out Logan's penchant for amassing the fine details with the ability to always remember to ask "why." Alongside Goren and Eames, they make up the Major Case Squad.
The two teams split the caseloads week to week. This season, Captain Ross, replaces former Captain James Deakins, played by Jamey Sheridan. Ross was rewarded with the Major Case Squad after heading a successful three-year Joint Task Force on International Money Laundering.
A divorced New York history buff and mentor to Detective Wheeler, it was he who scored her the job on the squad. The addition of Ross as captain is sure to have an effect on the squad's dynamic. Goren isn't known for using the most "by the book" methods in extracting clues and Ross isn't prepared to see the team lose a case in court because of it.
He has even asked Eames to watch over her partner to make sure he doesn't get too creative with his investigation. But, after years working together, Eames appreciates Goren's quick wit and resourcefulness, and as the pair begin to get used to each other, Ross starts to value it as well. The season is teeming with creative plots and surprise guest appearances as well.
According to executive producer Warren Leight, Rip Torn and Brooke Shields will appear in early episodes after he managed to book them eight days before the shows began filming. "We never really know who we are going to get until eight to two days before shooting," he writes on his blog. "I have a wish list of actors I would like to bring to the show, but the second I bring up their name their prices will go up.
" The season also promises an updated take on the 1992 murder of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey -- starring Liza Minnelli as Ramsey's mother. In the episode, titled "Masquerade," a pedophile in exile confesses to killing the little girl, much in line with the recent confession of John Mark Karr. No air date has been announced so far.
The youngest of the "Law and Order" trio, "Criminal Internet" garners more than 11 million viewers south of the border each week.
