's new Poolside, in Santa Monica, you'll find all the retro outfittings for the perfect summertime, tiki-themed, 1960s-style shindig -- comfy chaises lounges, clever martini shakers, serving trays, vintage ashtrays, outdoor lighting, lots of barware, and dining sets with 70s-style designs and colors. Who knows. But it's definitely worth checking out a smart new restaurant in the tony Jardim Paulista neighborhood. Shinya Koike trained at a sushi bar in Tokyo and a bistro in France (apparently doing a stint at Disneyland in between).
His menu is understandably eclectic, and includes such items as duck eggs with creamy house-made tofu and foie gras-wrapped veal milanesa. 39 Fern o Cardim St. Dinner for two is $60.
