Depp and Pirates nab MTV Movie Award Los Angeles (ANTARA News) - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man s Chest was named best movie at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles Sunday night and its star Johnny Depp won the best performance prize. The best comedic performance award went to British actor Sacha Baron Cohen, for Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Cohen also won the prize for best kiss for his lip action with Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
The two comedians accepted the award by giving a repeat performance on stage in the live broadcast, DPA reported. The Greek epic 300 led the nominations with five mentions, but only won the best fight award for its star, Scottish actor Gerard Butler. Jack Nicholson was named best villain for his role as a mobster in The Departed.
Comedian Mike Myers won the MTV Generation Award for his life s work. The show was hosted by caustic comedienne Sarah Silverman, and featured appearances from the likes of Cameron Diaz, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Alba, Shia LaBeouf, Bruce Willis Jay-Z, Rihanna, Amy Winehouse and Jessica Biel. Socialite Paris Hilton was in the audience and was the butt of many presenters jokes just two days before she was due to start a 28 day prison sentence.
Hilton is due in jail on June 5 for violating a parole sentence imposed for drunk driving. MTV viewers voted by telephone, text message and Internet to choose the winners of the Popcorn awards in all categories.
