'Mesa Verde' reading at Plan-B; 'Picnic' in Logan Compiled by Ellen Fagg and Alicia Greenleigh Plan-B Theatre presents a workshop of Matthew Ivan Bennett's "Mesa Verde," a new play developed from of a 10-minute short Bennett wrote for the company's 2006 Slam, a 24-hour-play development festival. The script-in-hand reading will be directed by Kyle Lewis and feature three actors - April Fossen, Teresa Sanderson and Yolanda Wood - who originated the characters for the play festival. The classic Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is also noted for the Oscar-winning 1955 movie starring William Holden and Kim Novak. It's the story of Hal Carter, an egocentric drifter, whose visit to a small Kansas town on Labor Day weekend stirs up a variety of reactions from townsfolk, including two impressionable sisters, Madge and Millie. "Picnic" is about what happens when boy meets girl, but it's also about the consequences of unfulfilled desires, says director Patrick Sims.
It's the second opening of the company's four-show summer season, produced for the 41st year under the direction of Utah State University's theater department. Tickets are 18 ( 12- 15 students/seniors) with discounts for matinee performances. Curtain is at 7:30 p.

See that girl, watch that scene: Tickets are on sale for another Salt Lake City run of "Mamma Mia!," the popular musical based on ABBA songs. Featuring pop hits like "Dancing Queen and "Take a Chance on Me," the show about a daughter's search on the eve of her wedding to discover the identity of her father causes three men and her mother to return to a Greek island they all had visited 20 years earlier.
