PATNA: The much-hyped initiative of a city-based private organisation to provide wholesome and hygienic food for just Rs 5 is yet to become operational. The organisation had requested the administration for allotment of space for setting up the food stalls. Till now, however, not even a single outlet has been opened despite the administration's earlier announcement to extend help in this regard for the benefit of low income groups.
The date of opening of the food stalls has been postponed on several occasions in the last one month due to non-allotment of the space. It was to become functional in the second week of June itself. "According to the information available, the proposal for allotment of space has been sent to the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the stalls would be opened as soon as the approval is given," said Sanjeev Kumar, head of the organisation which came up with the idea of a low-cost food.
He, however, refused to blame anyone for the delay, saying he expected the approval very soon. Sources in PMC revealed that all the formalities regarding allocation of space for the counters had been completed and the file was pending with PMC commissioner Rana Awadhesh. The commissioner, however, was not available for comment.
Meanwhile, people have started expressing unhappiness over the delay in the opening of the low-cost food counters. "We are destined to suffer. Those supposed to take care of the down-trodden should not have neglected a project which intends to provide cheap food to the people," said Ram Sharan, a rickshaw-puller.
