P.E.I.

's chief electoral officer will be asking for changes in the law governing who works in polling stations, looking for a mix of political representation in future elections.
Lowell Croken says voters have been asking him why election officials who work the polls are all representatives of the party in power. Under the province's Election Act, the deputy returning officer and poll clerks are nominated by the party in power at the time the election is called.

"I'm suggesting … that be reviewed," said Croken.
Croken said he would recommend that "the party in power choose the deputy returning officer, and the election poll clerk be chosen by the party that garnered the second highest number of votes across the province. That way you have the mix there.

"Some people are intimidated going in that they're all from the same party."
Croken said the federal Canada Elections Act follows a similar policy. The request will be made in his report following the provincial election.
