Mumbai: The latest in the gangster genre of films is Shootout At Lokhandwala. Based on the real-life day light encounter of five Dawood gang members in Mumbai's posh suburb of Lokhandwala, the film traces the eventful day and the controversial court case that followed.
Though director Apurva Lakhia hasn't delivered hits with his past two films, Shootout… - with the backing of Sanjay Gupta as a producer - looks very stylised and yet realistic with the tagline 'Based on true rumours.

'
"We wanted to bypass this situation whereby court cases and controversies come up. its a realistic film which also has all the elements of a commercial film. That's why we played around with the tagline and came up with this one- based on true rumours," says Lakhia.

The promos of Shootout at Lokhandwala bring back memories of Satya. Yet a marked departure from Ram Gopal Varma's gangster flicks are the strong female characters like the crime reporter played by Dia Mirza and Vivek Oberoi's ambitious mother played by Amrita Singh.
Shootout at Lokhandwala also starts Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and a host of other stars playing small but significant roles.

The film had months of pre production and script-reading sessions done and was shot in two months flat.
The climax sequence has been the buzz in filmmaking circles for some time now, due to its sheer scale.
"My climax sequence took a lot of preparation with 1000 extras and all my actors in this film,” says Lakhia.

Shootout at Lokhandwala hits theatres at the end of this month.
