Tribute: Bill Duane Keller was born in Eaton to George L. and Genevieve V. He graduated from Gilcrest High School in 1948 and served in the Navy from 1950-54.
On July 6, 1951, he married Helen Johnson in Greeley. After serving in the Navy, Mr. Keller worked as a carpenter for Wheeler and in 1964 began working for Valley Re-1 School District in Gilcrest.
He retired in 1984. He and his wife moved to Evans from Gilcrest in 2000. Keller had been a member of the Gilcrest Baptist Church since 1949.
He served on the Gilcrest Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and as the chief for six years. Her also served on the board of directors of the Platteville/Gilcrest Fire Protection District and was the secretary-treasurer for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and camping and loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Keller died Wednesday at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit in Greeley. Survivors: His wife, Helen Louise Keller of Evans; a daughter, Terri Burrous and husband Dale of Gilcrest; a son, Rusty Keller and wife Kendra of Greeley; a sister, Beverly Rossman of Las Vegas; a brother, Bob Keller of Mount Ayr, Iowa; four grandchildren, Audrey Grubbs and husband Kevin, Amy Burrous, Randia May and husband Morgan, and Robyn Keller; and three great-grandchildren, Jordyn Grubbs and Kaitlyn and Keegan May. Preceded in death by: His parents and a sister, Betty Sarchet.
