I recently did an Ask Hilary makeover with the actress Helen Fraser from ITV's Bad Girls. Her feet are quite wide and she swears by the English brand Van Dal (www.vandalshoes.
com; 0800 801909), which has an extensive range of styles. It is stocked at most John Lewis and House of Fraser stores as well as branches of Jane Shilton and Kurt Geiger. The present summer collection goes as wide as 9E, but according to a spokesman the styles are generally "very roomy" and should be fine for an EE-sized foot.
The autumn/winter collection, available later this month, will have a number of styles in EE too. Prices for Van Dal shoes are from 59.95.
Alternatively, www.tallgirls.co.
uk (mail order: 01420 587400) has a small selection in EE, including a black beaded small-heel sandal with ankle-strap, at 45, and a flower-trim pump, at 38. If you can find someone with access to the net, www.cinderellashoes.
co.uk (00 35 357 932 6696), a Dublin company, specialises in wide fittings and stocks sizes 8-11 in an EE fitting, from 34- 82. It will do mail order, but there is no brochure; you can only view the shoes via the website.
We have tickets for the Versace anniversary ballet at La Scala this weekend, but don't know what the dress code is. Can you advise? Mich le and Mike, Switzerland Dear Mich le and Mike, The ballet at La Scala in Milan is a black-tie gala, so the dress code is black tie for men and long evening dresses for women.
The event marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Gianni Versace and has been devised by the French choreographer, Maurice B jart, who often worked with the late designer. It will feature a new ballet, with costumes by Donatella Versace, and a series of sequences from ballets for which Gianni designed. My daughter is doing a school project on Russian sculpture and I am trying to trace the location of some statues that I spotted in Stella magazine.
It was a fashion shoot, photographed against Soviet-style sculpture. Do you know where and what the sculptures were? Dinah, Dorset The photographs were taken at Szobor (statue) Park, just outside Budapest.
After the fall of communism, all the gigantic statues in the Hungarian capital were moved there, to create this unique outdoor museum. It is now regarded as the world's best collection from the era.
