Two foreign directors are spending part of the summer in Canada making new movies with such stars as Julianne Moore and Gael Garcia Bernal. Filipino filmmaker Yam Laranas will shoot an English remake of his 2004 thriller, Sigaw, in Toronto for one month beginning Aug. Moore and Garcia Bernal will be in Toronto until early September to make Blindness, a feature by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles.

Based on Jose Saramago's novel, with a screenplay by Don McKellar, the film is about a woman who becomes the only person who can see in a town where everyone is struck with blindness. As the town descends into chaos, she pretends to be sick so that she can take care of her husband.
