STARRING as the party host at a stellar soiree for Ray-Ban's 70th anniversary last night was one thing, but Joel Edgerton's film future is so bright it's no wonder he needs to wear shades. The Sydney actor played the king of cool in a cast of VIP guests at the Crystal Bar party to celebrate the celebrated accessories, but revealed news of his next movie project that will see him team with talented brother Nash. The Square, to be directed by Nash and starring its writer/producer Joel, will begin production in eight weeks, with filming around Cronulla and the Sutherland Shire.

On the promo trail for the Ray-Bans anniversary gig yesterday, Edgerton told Confidential that while the brothers had once tried to out do each other imitating Tom Cruise in his famous Wayfarer-wearing scene in Risky Business, they made a good film-making team today. I'm not saying we don't slide around the apartment in Y-fronts and socks today. But we balance each other out when it comes to working together,'' he said.

When he's not trying to pretend'' he has even a modicum of cool,'' Edgerton has been busy preparing to direct a short film and recording his part in an adult animated movie, $9.99, which also stars Claudia Karvan, Samuel Johnson and Geoffrey Rush. Edgerton has voiced a character whose girlfriend leaves him then he begins talking to ``little men he thinks live in his apartment.

'' There's no small animal that needs to find its way home in this movie,'' Edgerton said, but it was appealing to me for its Chaplin qualities.'' What is this? Post to del.
