Sony Network (So-net) Taiwan, an ADSL ISP (Internet service provider) and ICP (Internet content provider) in Taiwan, on June 25 announced the immediate launch of 10/2Mbps FTTB (fiber to the building) service at a monthly rate of NT$980 (US$30). With Japan having the largest FTTB penetration in the world, So-net has about 740,000 FTTB subscribers in Japan and will transfer its operating experience there to the Taiwan market, according to So-net Taiwan. Due to limited deployment of fiber-optic networks in Taiwan, So-net's FTTB service currently is only available in the Taipei metropolitan area, two metropolitan areas respectively in central and southern Taiwan as well as Hsinchu, So-net Taiwan indicated.
