Three women and two children living in a Baytown apartment were terrorized and pistol-whipped by six robbers who burst through their door early this morning. Baytown Police Captain Roger Clifford described the robbers as three men, brandishing handguns, who covered their faces with black bandanas and wore black clothing and three women dressed in white shirts and blue jeans. The victims living in the apartment at 3120 Decker included a 28-year-old mother, her 10-year-old son and 3-year-old niece, along with two other women, ages 22 and 18.
"The victims are very frightened. We're trying to calm them down and right now are not releasing any names," Clifford said. today, the robbers knocked on the victims' apartment door and then forced their way inside, Baytown police said.
"The robbers were very loud, yelling and screaming threats," Clifford said The victims were bound and blindfolded with duct tape as soon as the robbers were inside. Then the women were kicked and pistol-whipped, police said. The children were not harmed.
The women declined to be taken to the hospital, although some of the deeper cuts they suffered in the attack appeared to need stitches, police said. After the assault, the robbers took numerous items from the home including a flat screen television, a Sony Playstation 2, gold jewelry and two DVD players, investigators said. The robbers then ran from the residence, slashing the tires on the victims' 2003 Ford SUV parked outside as they exited.
In addition, the robbers left numerous key marks on the vehicle's hood and body, Clifford said. "We don't know yet if the robbers had any connection to the victims. One victim thought she may have recognized one of the robbers' voices," said Clifford.
"Right now we're interviewing neighbors about what they saw and following leads that are taking investigators in three or four different directions."
