Wolfsburg, 31 May 2007 - It is the musical sensation of the year: For the very first time world-famous American singer and actress Barbra Streisand will play one concert in Germany during her first ever tour of Europe. Barbra Streisand will play Berliner Waldbühne on June 30th accompanied by a 58 piece orchestra. Europe´s biggest automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen, presents this once in a life time cultural event.
Volkswagen will support the concert of the artist with a limousine-fleet, consisting of Volkswagen Passat BlueMotion and Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion to shuttle crew and guests safely, elegantly and environmentally sound - thus making an important statement to the current debate about climate protection as well as considering it as a must-have for the ecology-minded Barbra Streisand.
"We admire Barbra Streisand as being one of the most outstanding artists of our time. Her social and political engagement as well as her strong commitment to environment protection commands all our respect.
We are delighted to present this Berlin concert," says Stephan Grühsem, Head of Group Communications at Volkswagen AG.
From June 18 until July 22, Barbra Streisand will also visit Austria, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden and England during her Europe tour. The tickets for the first show in London sold out within 20 minutes, with the second show selling out shortly after.
Barbra Streisand is the music industry's #1 best-selling female artist with 50 Gold, 30 Platinum and 13 Multi-Platinum albums to her credit. She is second in the all-time charts, ahead of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, exceeded only by Elvis. She continues to be the highest-selling female recording artist ever.
As an artist of unparalleled accomplishments in multiple entertainment fields, Barbra Streisand has made her mark as an award winning actress of stage and screen, recording artist, concert performer, movie producer, film director, screenwriter and songwriter. Having earned two Oscars (Best Actress and Best Song), four Emmys, ten Golden Globes, eight Grammys, a special Tony Award (in 1970 as "Star of the Decade"), and two Cable Ace awards, she is the only performer to hold honors from all of those institutions. In addition, Barbra Streisand is a recipient of the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award, the National Endowment for the Arts National Medal of Arts, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
