There's another movie on the way, and this one's a prequel that will fill in backstory on and as younger men. The latest addition to the $1 billion+ franchise will be XI, and will be helmed by ace director J.J.
Abrams of Mission Impossible III fame.
The screenplay will be written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, neither of whom have written a Star Trek screenplay before. The burning question: Who will play Kirk and Spock?
Expect to see the movie in theaters by November, 2008.

Despite popping up left and right, most of them haven't reached any kind of mass appeal thanks to limitations on to DVD.
Some, like CinemaNow, do allow burns, but have some difficulty with certain DVD players. Thanks to Sonic Solutions, there's a new licensing program called Qflix that lets consumers burn downloaded onto special discs.

, Verbatim, and Roxio are all on board to support this end-to-end Qflix system. To burn at home, you'll have to buy Qflix-enabled burners (or update your current firmware), Qflix-enabled blank discs, and use Qflix-enabled software.
One good outcome of this is that you can potentially head to store kiosks and burn old or obscure movies that aren't widely distributed because of their limited appeal.
It's not only the MPAA that doesn't want you porting your media to other devices, Hollywood directors are also throwing a fit. In an interview with NBC, said that his will never be tailored to fit the Video.
He says:
"That's one medium where I have to draw the line. We'll shoot for television and the movies and let there be a wide gap" between that and the small 3-inch screen. He also said that he felt that people are social animals who will choose to go out to a movie rather than watch a show on widescreen.Thanks Steve, but we'll watch our movies however we like, wherever we like. And if you start making decent movies again, we'll watch yours as well.
