MUMBAI: Maverick Indian Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt says he is making a musical based on the mystery surrounding the death of Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer.
Bhatt, who has a reputation for controversial and emotional human dramas, intends to start shooting the World Cup cricket tragedy in July and to release the film later this year.Woolmer, 58, was found dead in his hotel room in Jamaica after Pakistan crashed out of the World Cup by losing to Ireland.
Police said in March they believed he was murdered but recent reports have cast doubts on exactly how he died.
The movie will be titled Jannat (Paradise) and will cover certain events of Woolmer's life , Bhatt said. He added the game of cricket would be a backdrop to a love story.
Betting and match fixing will be brought to light and there will be songs (being a love story), he said.
Debutant Kunal Deshmukh will direct the movie but the actor who will play Woolmer is yet to be named.
In the mid-1980s, Bhatt highlighted personal narratives of illegitimate birth and extra-marital romance in movies such as Arth (Meaning), Janam (Birth) and Naam (Name).
Woolmer, a former England batsman, had hugely successful coaching stints with South Africa and English county side Warwickshire before he became the Pakistan coach.
Bhatt is also making a film on the life of the July 7 London suicide bombers, with his son Rahul in the lead. Suicide bomber is set for release early next year.
