Movie Review: Cheeni Kum - Rib Tickling Romance

Cheeni Kum, the promo says, is a romantic comedy with less mush. A sugar free romance. I'd say it's a rib tickling romance.

A love story with a difference. A wit-laced poignant statement on age and relationships, without becoming heavy or pretentious - that sums up Cheeni Kum, starring AB, Tabu, Zohra Sehgal, Paresh Rawal and Svini Khara.
Except for a couple of cliched scenes (which are inconsequential in the larger perspective of the brilliance of the film) Cheeni Kum walks away with full marks!

The dialogues are nothing short of brilliant. 'PC' Sreeram's cinematography is pleasing, in fact awesome and the actors, each one (even the smaller roles) are perfectly cast. The chemistry between Bachchan and Tabu is wonderful, it moves you; and despite the age difference, it doesn't bother you at all.

No where can you find a touch of vulgarity/obscenity. Even the scenes bordering on serious are
laced with wry humor.
Ilayaraja's music, (what can one say?

) is beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and being a die-hard Bachchan fan may watch it again.
I was quite kicked by the innovative use of the "<" sign in the title.

For a debutant, Balki has done a great job. His ad experience (and all those associated with the film, especially editor Chandan) shows in the richness of the production value of the film.
Cheeni Kum is a MUST SEE.

Gauri Warudi, has been a freelance journalist and script writer for over 16 years. She has been a film columnist and critic, mainly associated with the Marathi entertainment industry. She is also now a filmmaker, having made 2 short documentary films and has recently completed a short fiction film, titled, "Kab Tak".

Like this article? At the least you could have made the effort to disguise the 'hidden agenda', by reviewing its flaws and ending with a 'must see ' tag like most bikao reviewers. Now bikao doesnt necessarily mean 'money' so stop fuming.

It could very well mean, a personal interest...

..the Director/cinematographer/writer!

! Got it?

Sorry to disappoint you buddy.

This ain't no promo/paid exercise. I wish I'd get paid to promote films for people..

.do you know anyone? Do let me have their contacts.

..:D
What has been written here is purely my opinion/review.

I've been doing this work for many years and have never been asked sucha question..well, like they say, there's always a first time huh?

? Never mind.
If a project is good, its good.

If its bad then I say its bad. Period. Take it or leave it.

You're free to watch the film and write a review as per your opinion, what say?
Or better still look for some more reviews..

..maybe they're all paid to say good things about the film?

?
Btw did you get fooled??

? Just curious..

.
Cheers!

Now thats a strange query!

! Your efforts at quips is unadmirable..

No wonder the review. Lack of ability is obvious.
And No I am not convinced.

.
Found some mention of Ad days on your site.
So once again.

. who you fooling? The Director and writer both have ad backgrounds.

Now you may deny, as the sole option, til Kingdom come ut the guilt will only persist.
And No..

no other review has been so complimentary!! Got That

Insider, If you're familiar with the process of filmmaking, you'll know that an editor holds the key to a film's finesse/finish, right? So!

! A well edited film certainly adds to the film's production value. A badly edited film gives it ashoddy look.

..Thats' my take.

...

perhaps you know better.

And ROFL ROFL!!

I loved the way you link my ad days to these guys. For Christ's sake, I wish I knew these guys. I'd not be struggling to make films at 50!

!
And wo!!

! For a response, you sure are rather vitriolic aren't you??

Well about not being convinced...

I cant help it. It doesnt matter to me either. Eventually its your call.

See the film or dont see it. Choice is yours. My giving it stars or saying MUST SEE wont matter to people like you anyway, will it?

?
Chandan Arora is a filmmaker, editor and ad-man. I know him as much as you or the next guy does.

Please ask him and if you know him, please give me his contact number. You'd be doing me a favor..

.honest! God promise.

If my quips dont amuse you, fine. I'm not trying to. But please dont comment on my ability.

Makes me wonder what exactly is it that bothers you? My review or the fact that i've posted it here? Cant fathom the reason for your nastiness.

...

C'mon now, who you fooling.
Reading impaired??

I mentioned specifically non involvement of money!! Selective responding is a dead give away.

I did enjoy the repartee, but the second half of the movie was a let down. the melodrama at qutub went over the top. and the 6 year old 'sexy' was rather distasteful i found.

but the chemistry between AB and Tabu was terrific and i loved that I could see why a 34 yr old would be attracted to this 64 yr old - AB plays a terrific Buddha.
