Three more American Idols – Melinda Doolittle, Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks – are "staying alive" for another week, after singing and training with former Bee Gees member Barry Gibb. Ironically, Lakisha Jones, who performed the "Saturday Night Fever" classic as well as the song "Run To Me," was told she would be heading back to her hometown of Ft. Meade, Maryland.

A week of what Ryan Seacrest referred to as "Boogie Music" turned out to be much more difficult than many expected. With a choice of 673 songs to choose from (all of which Barry had written, sung, or produced), one would think song selection would be pretty easy.

Blake, who had wowed the judges last week with an eclectic beat-boxed version of Bon Jovi’s "You Give Love A Bad Name" used his confidence to try a little-known Bee Gees’ song ("This Is Where I Came In") and got terrible reviews from the judges.

Melinda had a tough time with "Love You Inside Out" and Simon chided her with the comment, "That was a background vocalist performance" (a reference to her career singing backing vocals for artists like Michael McDonald and CeCe Winans before coming to the spotlight on Idol).

Jordin Sparks, who smartly selected a song written for the female voice ("Woman In Love" as performed by Barbara Streisand), even fell short of her usual good standings. The judges seemed to tell each contestant at one point that they were "pitchy and pageanty.

"

During the results show, after a performance of the oddly-dressed Barry Gibb, clad in a mesh shirt, the sad news dropped for Lakisha. Although her tear-streaked face seemed sad, she admitted after that now she was looking forward to spending more time with her daughter Brionne. At least for a little while… until rehearsals begin for the Idols: Live!

Tour (coming to Virginia in September).

Next week the final three will face a bigger challenge as they tackle three songs apiece. One will be selected by the contestants, one chosen by the judges and one picked for them by RCA Music Group President Clive Davis.
