It takes a very special man to be able to get arrested four times in ten months, and an even specialer man to be able to cock a snook every time a judge tries to be halfway lenient about it all - ladies and gentlemen, Busta Rhymes is that man.
Despite spending the best part of his recent life being arrested for beating up a bunch of people, driving on a suspended licence and driving drunk, Busta Rhymes seems to think that he ll be able to escape all of his charges in court. That s the only explanation as to why Busta Rhymes has rejected a plea deal that would have limited his sentence to a year in jail.

Well, not the only explanation, obviously - the other one is that he s a total dribble-mouth butterbrain of a nobsack who s too dumbly proud to admit that he s ever effing wrong. But that s all conjecture on our part.
Usually when someone is offered a plea bargain in court, it s along the line of you naughty boy, say sorry and we ll let you or you awful girl, say sorry and we ll let you .

But in the case of Busta Rhymes, the road-sweeping line was crossed long ago.
Ever since Busta Rhymes has failed to cooperate with police over the , Busta Rhymes has been getting in an awful lot of trouble. An autograph hunter launched a lawsuit after and then and then and then there was an arrest for driving with a suspended license and then the and then .

Aside from the movie set thing and the autograph hunter thing, to face all of the above. And the American court system being what it is, a plea deal was offered yesterday. However, Busta Rhymes being who he is - seemingly a man who couldn t not break the law for a millisecond if you tied him up and threw him into a padded cellar - the plea deal offered was a little more than a five-day roadsweeping jaunt.

In fact, the plea deal in its entirety consisted of a $1,500 fine, a spot on an anti-drunken driving program and - most seriously - a full year in jail. And Busta Rhymes turned it down, as Reuters reports:
Grammy-nominated rapper Busta Rhymes turned down a plea deal on Tuesday that would have sent him to jail for one year, the Manhattan district attorney s office said. Rhymes has been arrested four times in 10 months, most recently on May 3 on suspicion of drunken driving.

He also faces two charges for assault and one for driving with a suspended license.
Remember that a year in jail was supposed to be a kind offer - that says a lot about the type of punishment Busta Rhymes can expect if he s found guilty of all his charges when the court reconvenes in July. And don t forget that July is such a long way off that Busta Rhymes will have probably got himself arrested a further 12-15 times before then.

So come July, we can imagine that Busta Rhymes will have wished he d accepted the plea bargain - especially if the new punishment involves watching any of the movies he s starred in or listening to any of the music he s made in the last eight years.
