The 2001 Reese Witherspoon movie titled Legally Blonde was a success beyond its producers most hopeful dreams. It was such a success that Reese slipped on the pink suit two years later, in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde. And now we have Legally Blonde: The Musical, with Elle Woods character singing her joys and heartbreaks on stage.
The story begins with Elle, a sorority sister at Delta Nu, hoping for an engagement and finding herself dumped instead. Her boyfriend sees Harvard Law School in his future and she s simply not good enough for such an intellectual environs. Elle decides to prove that she is indeed good enough and sings and dances her way to Harvard, obtaining a law degree and a new boyfriend.
The songs performed have titles like Omigod You Guys, Serious, Blood in the Water, Positive and Whipped into Shape. This show won t boast a mainly-male audience any time soon, but mothers, daughters and even grandmothers will probably enjoy the energetic performance and positive messages. The show is directed and choreographed by first-time director Jerry Mitchell.
