[img] I was going to start this post with, I guarantee if you looked through the blogs yesterday, they most likely all talked about Dan Paul Govier s new solo project lights.on , but the more I searched, the less I found.  That, my friends, is a shame indeed.

Dan Paul Govier is one half of the band We Will Build, which I ve talked about before time and time again.  They were even #31 on my top 50 of 2006 list.  So, upon receiving news from Dan that he s gone solo as lights.

on and that all his music was [...

Note to self: Jot down post ideas when they come to you. I swear Friday I had all sorts of great ideas for posts this week, but I can t think of anything at the moment. So like I usually do, here s some links to hold you over for you Monday.

[img] Morgan, of Azeda Booth, sent me their new EP yesterday and I can t get enough of it.  He gave me permission to stream the entire EP for you guys so that s what I m going to do.

I doubt it s an exclusive at all, but I got your attention didn t I? Azeda Booth s very short, but very good new EP at times sounds like Boards of Canada combined with the Books, while other times sounding like Bjork mixed with Sigur Rós.  The EP opener Aislinn Bos, Y fits the first combination of instrumental bands and begins the 13 minute [.

[img] Copy is the electronic one man band from Portland, Oregon made up of Marius Libman.

I was sent a song of his off the new album Hair Guitar, and while it s great and I m here eager to share it, I m more excited that it sparked my love for really good electronic music again. As in good, experimentally indie, melodic electronic music without all the thumping. The dance hall stuff I can t stand, but the fun, slightly odd numbers are where it s at for me.

So enter Copy, electronic music straight out of the 8-bit days and all [...

[img] First thing s first. I m pretty dang sick. Why?

Over the last two days I spent 10 hours driving from Springfield to KC to pick up my sister, rested an hour or so, drove from KC to Columbia, stood watching a particular concert for another three or four hours, drove two more hours back home to KC, slept, woke up early then drove three hours from KC back to Springfield. What concert could possibly drive me to, well, drive all that way on a Sunday? Freakin Andrew Bird that s who.

I didn t have my camera b/c I couldn t find [...

(most found thanks to Largehearted Boy) Andrew Bird: Black Sessions live concert 2/25/05. I ve never found them online like this, but have always loved this live set. Thanks to Music is Art for these.

I don t know what the deal is, but it s been a bit slow on the music front lately. Well, for me at least and finding stuff I really like enough to post.

I m not too big a fan of Nine Inch Nails, but that came out yesterday much to the excitement of a few of my friends, who ve been following the strange NIN puzzles around the net up until now. I m just going to have to sift a little harder through the net tomorrow I guess. Until I find some truly great music, here s some truly great TV to enjoy [.

[img] I was reading Shots Ring Out the other day and noticed they posted the new Metric video for their song Empty which features a house slowly reverting from being torn apart to everything popping back on shelves and the like until the house is back together by the end.

This trend of backwards videos, most taken in one long shot is not only one I ve loved as of late, but one I had to share since SRO so kindly compiled a few in that post. So here s me borrowing the links SRO gave not to steal [..

[img] I m not one to complain too much about things, but I m honestly sick of school.  I ve as of late realized kind of what I want to do with my life the next year or so and really want to go after it with a full head of steam, but at the moment I have two freakin group projects, research papers, and a handfull more pointless things I have to do instead that it s really gotten under my skin.

My songwriting s geting to the point that I m writing pretty good songs every couple weeks and I m excited [...

[img] I love Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. I ve talked about them time and time again here at the Perch because, besides the fact they make great music, they re also from right here in Springfield, MO and are good friends. But the big problem I always had with their album Broom was the fact that it sounded like they recorded it in their attic.

Which, of course, they actually did, but that made the excitement that much greater when I found out they were getting signed and that album was going to be remastered and re-released. [..

I ve fallen behind in the whole helping bands and labels out aspect of the blog I set out to accomplish in the first place and this week I aim to fix that. I m going to sift through the mountains of emails I ve received and pull out the best of the bunch.

Up first is Loch Lomond. [img] Loch Lomond was originally a solo project of Ritchie Young in 2003 and after a debut album entitled When We Were Mountains and various encarnations of his band, we find him today with a new album on Hush Records called [..

Running With Scissors Score:  9/10 [img] Running With Scissors is the film adaptation of Augusten Burroghs memoir of the same name.  It was one I d seen at book stores before and wanted to read, but now plan on reading it the first chance I have some free time on my hands.

The film reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums, The Squid the Whale, and Little Miss Sunshine in its ability to make light of a screwed up family situation while still finding the pain and heartbreak that lies beneath the quirky overtones.  Augusten is found to be in [..

I m heading home in a few for Easter, so I m getting all packed for the trip and will be gone most the day today. Unprepared like usual, but watch these videos until I return and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Mute Math - Typical I heard this was done all in one take OK Go style, which considering they were playing to a backwards beat and singing backwards, that s pretty damn impressive. It s hard to escape the fact that they ve just blown up this last year getting on the cover of all the magazines, considering I ve been a fan since [..

[img] The Republic Tigers are my current favorite band hands down.  Holly introduced me to them after seeing them open for her brother s band Shhh, which is a great band itself.

She threw some of their songs my way and I couldn t get enough of them.  First of all, right off the bat you realize that all six of them can sing better than most lead singers out there, and their harmonies are the best I ve heard in a long while.  Of course, I can t say I ve even heard a band quite like Republic Tigers.

  The singing [...
